CIRRUS IFD (Incident Fire Detection)

Main Air Sampling Components

The equipment continuously draws air samples from all the areas being protected to the Cirrus IFD. The air sample would be monitored. If the measured particle level exceeds the preset alarm level, an alarm condition is activated. This provides a relay output for remote indication of the alarm, an alarm indicator for that zone and the alarm level will be illuminated on the Cirrus IFD control.

The Four Stages of Fire

Stage 0: True Incipient Stage

At this stage optically invisible particles of 0.002 microns are produced due to Thermal Breakdown (Combustion).

Stage 1: Optically visible smoke particles are produced in the second stage which could be hours or even days after stage one of a fire.

0.0025 micron particulate continues to be produced.

Stage 2: Clearly visible smoke is produced as the fire starts to consume larger areas of the material. 0.0025 micron particulate continues to be produced.

Stage 3: Flaming fire is present which may produce large quantities of smoke dependant on the material on fire.

0.0025 micron particulate continues to be produced.

Stage 4: Intense heat caused by the flames and materials on fire.

0.0025 micron particulate continues to be produced.

As 0.002 micron particulate continues to be produced, the Cirrus IFD operates through all stages of fire.
